Troubleshooting Troubleshooting and known issues with ApexSQL Tools Shotgun weddings and Auto-updaters Applies to All ApexSQL products Summary ApexSQL tools have Auto-updater that will notify users of updates and allow them to automatically update their software to the new version. However, auto-updater might not warn customers who still have an older version of the software that the update is a new major version. In newer ApexSQL application versions, the customers get the notice that it is a major update, but the application is updated anyway, without checking their maintenance status at our upgrade center (or contacting sales). We understand that the notice in the Auto-updater dialog might not be highlighted effectively enough, and there were not sufficient warnings/validation to discourage an inadvertent upgrade. We apologize to the customers affected by this. The newer updater dialog (shown below) will give even more explicit warnings as well as present a validation message when the customer presses "Next". This should guarantee that customers will be presented with crystal clear upgrade options and there will be no confusion. Resolution There are two ways to solve the problem. Revert to old version You can simply uninstall the new version and download and install the old version. After downgrading make sure to turn off the Auto-updater: Upgrade to new version You can upgrade to the new major version. As an existing customer you will always get a 30% discount on new versions of the software, no matter how long ago you purchased an older version or have been out of maintenance. Contact our sales for help in purchasing the new version. You can also visit our upgrade center to check maintenance status and upgrade costs.
