Summary
This article explains the issue when Red Gate SQL Source Control and ApexSQL Version are both integrated in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and Red Gate SQL Source Control overrides ApexSQL Version database overlay icons in the Object Explorer pane

Symptoms

Case 1:

A database is linked to a source control using ApexSQL Version, and the ApexSQL Version database overlay icons identify all linked databases:

When the user links the same database to a source control via the Red Gate SQL Source Control add-in the ApexSQL Version database overlay icon will be overwritten:

Unlinking the database via Red Gate SQL Source Control will wipe out ApexSQL Version database overlay icon completely:

Case 2:

A database is linked to a source control using Red Gate SQL Source Control:

The user links the database to a source control via ApexSQL Version. ApexSQL Version database overlay icon is visible and doesn’t override Red Gate SQL Source Control icon:

The user unlinks the database from the Red Gate SQL Source Control and the ApexSQL Version database overlay icon is wiped out completely:

Background
Due to incompatibilities between ApexSQL Version and Red Gate SQL Source Control, the latter overrides ApexSQL Version database overlay icons in the Object Explorer pane

Workaround
Refreshing the server in the Object Explorer pane will show the ApexSQL Version database overlay icon again

ApexSQL Version 2013.01.0022 and older
