Troubleshooting and known issues with ApexSQL Tools

When I download a help file from the website, the following is shown: "The page cannot be displayed", "Action canceled" or I'm unable to view the TOC

Applies to
All ApexSQL products

Summary

This article explains how to solve the problem when:

1) CHM file downloaded from the Internet or CHM file created by ApexSQL Doc on a remote server can't be opened
2) It is unable to view or navigate through the Table of content, Index and Search

Symptoms
The following messages are shown when viewing a Compiled Help (.CHM) file, downloaded from the Internet or opened from the Network place:

1) Action canceled

2) The page cannot be displayed

3) The Table of content, Index and Search is not shown

Cause
'Action canceled' or 'The page cannot be displayed' error will be displayed with computers using Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2. The problem is caused by security features introduced in the MS Windows security update MS05-026, designed to reduce HTML help vulnerability. On the other hand, if it is possible to open the file but Table of content, Index and Search are not shown, this means that you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer to view the Help file.

Resolution
There are two methods to fix the problem:

Method I

  1. Double click the downloaded Compiled Help (.CHM) file
  2. Set Always ask before opening this file checkbox OFF in the Open File - Security Warning dialog

  3. Open the file

Method II
  1. Right click the downloaded Compiled Help (.CHM) file and select Properties item from the context menu
  2. Press Unblock in the Propertiesand apply changes

  3. Double click the CHM file

To be able to view and use the Table of content, Search and Index, use Internet Explorer
